Coffee becomes the most popular beverage globally

Analysis:

According to the British Coffee Association, coffee is currently the most popular drink worldwide, with around two billion cups being consumed everyday. In the United Kingdom alone, approximately 95 million cups of coffee are made on the daily. As a result of this, the well-loved beverage has also begun to make its mark over in China, with the nation seeing a gradual shift of interest from the long-stemmed tradition of drinking tea. From historic teahouses to modernistic cafes, it would seem that the younger Chinese generation prefer the concoction of beans to leaves. Perhaps this is due to a combination of various reasons, such as the pull of social media, keeping up with the trends, as well as the progressive influence and infiltration of opinions and concepts from the Western front of the globe.

Looking Ahead:

So although tea drinking is not a defunct pastime, it certainly is no longer a hardline tradition for most Chinese citizens, namely for millennials. China may soon have to come to terms and accept a likely inevitable – that tea may no longer remain as the country’s top beverage in the upcoming future.
